The BOOM Mobile is intended to give participants a fun introduction to the sport of sailing, and give them an opportunity to develop their sailing skills. This mobile teaches children ages 8 to 14 the basics of sailing using the Canadian Yachting Association's (CYA) White Sail Level 1, 2 and 3 standards. By using a combination of sailing dinghies they can introduce beginners to sailing, while still challenging the intermediate sailors. If there is enough interest, elements of Bronze Sail Level 4 will be taught to the more experienced sailors.

This year, the club will provide Lasers and Optimists for the program. One or two more sailboats might be needed to provide enough boats and a discount will be offered to parents lending their boat for the program. Contact Michel for details.

Registration for the BOOM program is being handled by the LDSC youth sailing coordinator, Michel Pigeon, at . 2007 fees have been set at $250 per club member participant and $280 for non-members. The course operates from 9:00AM to 4:00PM Monday July 2nd to Friday July 6th. Register soon by sending the registration form and your deposit by April 30th, 2007. Only 16 spots are available and they typically fill quickly.

The registration form is available here.

The Canadian Yachting Association's Learn to Sail standards provide safe, standardized instruction for recreation and competition in sailing dinghies. These sailing levels have been developed over many years of experience and are recognized around the world.

White Sail Levels I, II and III are the introductory levels. Beginners are introduced to and taught the basic skills of sailing. These levels cover safety, seamanship and boat handling in winds to 9 knots velocity. Interested members are encouraged to check out these standards at the CYA web site.

JUNIOR RACING PROGRAM

For the first time this upcoming season, a junior racing program will be offered to young sailors aged 8 to 14 to sharpen their sailing skills in a fun setting. The children will be teamed up two per Laser or Optimist sailboat to race around a standard sailboat racing course. On the water coaching might be provided to improve the young sailors boat handling skills. The races will be held over three week-end in the early summer:
