Social activities begin before the dock goes in and continue until after close-up. A typical season might include events such as a dessert barbecue, moonlight sail, pot luck supper, new members barbecue, sleepover for the children and pancake breakfast, and, always, the annual banquet and awards night in November.
We will have a fun kick-off for the season with a combined mega event on Saturday June 21st, which is Get into Sailing Day in Ontario. We will hold the Open House at the same time as the Sail Past and the New Member BBQ. The Sailstice will be on Friday June 20th. We will need volunteers to give boat rides to visitors on your own boat or on the club boats. We encourage you to advertise the event at your workplace, to bring your family and friends, and to decorate your boat with the club colours for the event. We will have a band playing classic rock and bluegrass music. New club members and visitors joining as new club members that day will get a free BBQ. If the weather cooperates, it should be a very exciting day.
At the Commodore's Cup in mid July (19), we will have a wine and cheese followed by a BBQ to celebrate a glorious day on the water. The following week-end is the the Junior Regatta with its Hot Dog BBQ dinner. For those interested, we will have a sleepover at the Club followed by the Pancake Breakfast. Last summer the pancakes with fresh berries and real maple syrup were delicious. If there is enough interest, we will have a start for the Junior in the Sunday (27) afternoon racing.
In mid August (16), we have the Poker Run which is a fun race mix with a poker game. It is followed by a Wine and Cheese and an out of this world salmon BBQ. We will finally close the season with the Year End Banquet at the end of October. Different awards are given: racing trophies, outstanding contribution awards, and fun awards. Last fall the banquet was at Le Restaurant International part of the hostelry program at Algonquin College. The food was excellent and much fun was had by all.
